Mirror — reflect across a face plane or along an edge
What it does
Mirror reflects the selection across a plane. Only the direction perpendicular to that plane flips, the way a mirror does. It is not a point reflection through a single point.
You can select groups, components, faces, or edges (selecting a curve selects its edges). Several at once is fine. The tool opens with nothing selected; a click then does nothing.
The mirror plane comes from the hover
Select the objects and click Mirror.
Move the cursor. A 300×300 mm square lies in the mirror plane, and a dashed box shows the result.
Click to commit.
Hover an edge (this wins over a face): the plane passes through the snap and its normal is the edge direction. An edge along X flips only X. The edge is drawn orange and its midpoint is a yellow square.
Hover inside a face: the face's own plane. The square is blue.
Hover where there is no edge or face: the normal is the world X, Y, or Z axis closest to the camera direction. The square is orange.
The preview box is green and dashed. After the click the tool stays open and reads the selection again.
Ctrl — keep the original
Ctrl toggles copy mode (press once). While it is on, a green + sits by the cursor. The click creates the mirrored copy and leaves the original where it was.
A copied group is made unique and keeps material, layer, and name.
A copied component still shares its definition.
A loose face or edge is flipped in place when copy is off. When copy is on, the tool builds a temporary group, mirrors it, and explodes it.
Each click is one undo step, named Mirror or Mirror (copy).
Keys
Click — commit the mirror on the plane now shown.
Ctrl — toggle keeping the original.
Esc — leave the tool.
There is no VCB. Tab, Shift, Alt, and the arrow keys do nothing in this tool.
Common mistakes
A click does nothing: the selection is empty, or it has no group, component, face, or edge. The status line asks you to select first.
Expecting a flip through a point: hovering an edge midpoint is still a plane whose normal is the edge, not a point reflection.
Other component copies change too: a component copy is not made unique. Make the instance unique first, or use a group.
