Isolate selection hides every other group/component in the model and keeps only what you selected visible — so you can focus on a few boards inside a cabinet full of parts.
Use it when you need to:
See a board clearly while other boards block the view.
Edit or mark joints on a small cluster without snapping to neighbors by mistake.
Inspect a part quickly before CNC export.
Basic steps
Select one or more groups/components to keep.
Click the Isolate selection icon. Every other top-level group/component is hidden; your selection is kept and the tool returns to Select.
Work normally on what remains.
Ctrl+Z to undo — everything reappears. The status bar reminds you: Hidden unselected objects — use Undo to restore.
Details worth knowing
If a selected object sits inside a parent group, the tool climbs up and keeps the whole parent visible (only unrelated branches inside it are hidden) — the model structure is not disturbed.
Selecting a loose face/edge resolves to its owning group/component — you cannot isolate a lone face.
Objects that were already hidden stay hidden.
The whole action is a single Undo step.
Common problems
“Select at least one object to isolate”: nothing was selected — make a selection before clicking the icon.
“Everything disappeared”: do not panic — it is all just hidden, and Ctrl+Z brings it back. If you did other actions afterwards, undo step by step until the isolate is reverted.
Want some things back: unhide individual objects via Outliner/Entity Info, or undo and isolate again with a wider selection.
