Make Face skins a flat face onto every closed edge loop in the selection — the same as redrawing one edge so SketchUp heals the face, but done in one pass for hundreds of edges.
Use it when you need to:
Skin outlines imported from DXF / 2D drawings that came in as bare lines.
Patch a face lost after cutting or deleting on a board's surface.
Create the base face of any closed edge chain before push/pull.
Basic steps
Select the edges/curves (at the model's top level — groups/components in the selection are ignored).
Click the Make Face icon. The tool builds faces from every selected edge.
The status bar reports the result, e.g. Built 3 face(s) from 12 edge(s).
Selecting one edge of a curve (arc, welded curve) brings the whole curve along. Everything is one Undo step (Ctrl+Z).
When no face appears
SketchUp only builds a face when the edges close a flat, gap-free loop — all edges on one plane, joined end to end. If nothing can be built, the tool reports No face could be built — the selected edges do not close a flat loop.
Common problems
“Select at least one edge…” message: the selection only holds groups/components or faces — the tool needs loose edges/curves at model level. Explode or enter the group to select the edges.
No face built: the loop is still open (two ends not touching — zoom in close to find tiny gaps) or the edges are not coplanar.
Only some faces appeared: open/non-planar loops are skipped while closed loops still get faces — read the counts on the status bar.
